Tips For Using Sunbeds
Know your Skin Type
Depending on the type of skin, people react differently to sunlight. You should know your type of skin for correct enjoyment of the sun and sunbeds. World-wide, six types of skin are differentiated - the first four types of skin occur most frequently in Europe.
Skin type 1 ( approx 2% of all Central Europeans): remarkably light skin, reddish hair, blue eyes, very strong tendency to develop a sunburn.
Skin type 2 ( approx 12% of all Central Europeans): light skin, blond to medium-brown hair, blue to grey or green eyes, strong tendency to develop sunburn.
Skin type 3 ( approx 78% of all Central Europeans): normal skin, dark-blond to brown hair, grey to brown eyes, moderate tendency to develop a sunburn.
Skin type 4 ( approx 8% of all Central Europeans): light-brown to olive-coloured skin, dark hair and eyes, slight tendency to develop a sunburn.
Even in winter with little sunshine we can provide ourselves with the missing sunshine on a sunbed. Contrary to the natural sun, which is subject to strong variations, tanning on a sunbed can be used precisely and individually.
CLIENTS WITH FAIR SKIN WHO BURN ON EXPOSURE TO THE SUN SHOULD TAKE GREAT CARE WHEN USING THE UNIT FOR THE FIRST TIME. EXPOSURE TIME SHOULD BE A MAXIMUM OF 6 MINUTES ON THE FIRST OCCASION (3 MINUTES FOR CLIENTS WITH VERY FAIR SKIN). IF THERE IS NO REDNESS OR IRRITATION OF THE SKIN WITHIN SIX HOURS AFTER EXPOSURE, THE NEXT SESSION CAN BE INCREASED TO 9 MINUTES, BUT THIS SHOULD NOT BE WITHIN 48 HOURS OF THE FIRST EXPOSURE. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD A FIRST TIME USER WITH FAIR SKIN UNDERGO MORE THAN 6 MINUTES OF EXPOSURE AND IF THEY DO SO IT IS ENTIRELY AT THEIR OWN RISK. SUN-BATHING IN NATURAL SUNLIGHT IS NOT RECOMMENDED ON THE SAME DAY.
DO NOT EXCEED RECOMMENDED EXPOSURE TIME Remember that you are exposing parts of your body not normally exposed to sunlight which are therefore likely to be more sensitive to ultraviolet light. If in any doubt, try a shortened session at first to prevent burning or discomfort.
You should consult your doctor before using tanning equipment if:
You have ever had any skin condition, allergy, cataract, heart condition, fits, faints, migraine, diabetes, high or low blood pressure or circulatory disorders
You are currently taking any medicines (in particular tranquillisers / antibiotics / anti tubercular drugs / anti -depressants or anti-fungal agents)
You have undergone a course of radiation treatment
You have any reason to believe that you are pregnant or are taking the oral contraceptive
Persistent lumps, sores or pigmented moles appear on the skin.
IF YOU HA VE ANY DOUBTS ABOUT YOUR HEALTH YOU SHOULD SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE BEFORE USING THIS EQUIPMENT.
If you are less than 16 years of age then you should not use indoor tanning equipment (government guidelines).
If you never tan in natural sunlight and have very fair skin with lots of freckles and moles then you should not use indoor tanning equipment.
Contact lenses must be removed before using tanning equipment.
The protective eye-wear provided MUST BE WORN.
It is imperative lhat skin is thoroughly cleansed of make-up, perfumes, colognes and body lotions, many of which can increase your sensitivity to ultra violet light.
Do not use preparations designed for use in the sun, these can cause abnormal reactions and generally form a barrier to tanning. Use only lotions specifically designed for indoor tanningthese are available from reception.
Do not expose any part of the body more than once a day and do not sunbathe on the same day.
Do not wear jewellery whilst using the unit.
The Sunbed Assocation recommends that indoor tanning sessions are limited to 60 per year.
Failure to adhere to these recommendations is entirely the responsibility of the client and the proprietor can in no way be held responsible for the consequences.
